First things first.
I’m not here to sell you anything. I don’t do sales, I build furniture.
There’s no sales pitch, no pressure, and no expectation that you have to make a purchase. My job is to understand what you’re looking for, tell you honestly what I can build, and give you the information you need to decide whether Redbud is the right fit for your project. If it is, great. If it isn’t, that’s perfectly fine too.
You have an idea. Maybe it’s a dining table you’ve been picturing for years, a built-in that needs to solve a very particular problem, or a chair that simply doesn’t exist anywhere else. My job is to take that idea and turn it into something tangible, something you can sit in, gather around, use every day, and eventually hand down.
So how do we get from “I have an idea” to “there it is, sitting in my house”?
I prefer to be hands-on throughout the entire process. For one, I want you to feel comfortable trusting me with what can be a significant investment. Just as importantly, I want the finished piece to actually feel like yours. That means understanding how you intend to use it, how it needs to function, what you like aesthetically, and what will make it feel at home in your space. The details matter, and those details are best figured out through a conversation rather than a catalog or a checkbox.
I also don’t like to short-circuit the process.
If I happen to have something in inventory that is exactly what you’re looking for, by all means, we can make things easy and get it into your home. But if we’re talking about a custom piece, I want to take the time to do it properly.
You’re in the driver’s seat.
My role is to listen, offer ideas and expertise where they’re useful, and make sure you understand your options along the way. We’ll work through the design, materials, details, and price together before anything gets built. The end result shouldn’t just be a piece of furniture I built. It should be a piece of furniture you had in mind to fit your space. One that you’re genuinely happy to own.
Here’s what you can expect:
Step 1. We make contact
Start with an email, phone call, or contact form. From there, I’ll schedule a quick conversation to get the basics: what you’re looking for, approximate size, intended use, materials or style you have in mind, and your budget. This isn’t a sales pitch. It’s simply a chance for us to figure out whether I’m the right person to build what you have in mind.
Step 2. We talk it through
We’ll have that conversation and dig a little deeper into the project. We will schedule a 15 minute call, or there abouts and get an idea of what you have in mind. Depending on the scope, I may ask to visit your home or project site. Seeing the space in person allows me to take accurate measurements, understand the surroundings, and get a feel for where the piece will actually live. Because a piece of furniture shouldn’t just look good in a photograph. It should make sense in the room where you live.
Step 3. I design it and build your quote
Using everything we’ve discussed, I’ll develop a design and provide you with a detailed quote. There is no charge for this initial design and quote, and nothing is binding at this stage. If something doesn’t feel right, we change it. If there’s a different material that makes more sense, we talk about it. If there’s a better way to solve the problem, I’ll tell you. The goal is to arrive at a design, material selection, and price that we’re both comfortable with before anything gets built.
Step 4. We make it official
Once we’ve settled on the design, materials, and price, I’ll send over the agreement and request a 50% deposit to begin the project. That deposit reserves your place on my build schedule and allows me to purchase materials and get to work.
And then the fun part starts.
Step 5. I build it
This is where your project leaves the drawing board and becomes a piece of furniture. I’ll keep you updated periodically as the build progresses. Depending on the project, that might mean progress photos, a quick message about a material choice, or simply letting you know that things are moving along. I don’t believe you should have to wonder what’s happening with something you’ve commissioned. As we get close to completion, we’ll coordinate a delivery date that works for you.
Step 6. We bring it home
When the piece is finished, I’ll deliver it to your home and take care of the installation and placement as needed. For some pieces, I will have a third party moving company who are good friends of ours and we trust to help me get it delivered and setup exactly where you need it to live. In other words: you don’t get a giant piece of furniture dropped in your driveway and a handshake. I’ll make sure it arrives safely, is placed where it belongs, and is ready for you to enjoy. At delivery, we’ll collect the remaining balance of the project.
Step 7. You get to enjoy
Now it gets to do what it was built to do. Eat dinner around it. Put your feet up. Invite people over. Spill something on it. Tell stories around it. Make memories with it. And when you’ve had a chance to live with your new piece, I’d love to hear how it’s doing. Send me a photo. Tell me what you think. Let me know how I did.
Every Redbud piece also comes with a two-year craftsmanship warranty, because I intend to stand behind the work long after I leave your driveway.
From the first conversation to the day it comes home, the goal is pretty simple: You bring the idea. I’ll help turn it into something special.
